The MD no. 5579 invited to restore them immediately because the effort seemed manageable and the result to be attractive. Therefore, they were disassembled and the single parts were cleaned and painted with OWATROL oil as planned. On the next occasion the assembly will take place, which certainly will not need more than one day.
Despite intensive search, a constructive difference to the type MD1 could not be find out, but various details, which make a loco from Nordhausen distinguishable from a Sesto machine. Among others the locomotive has additional weights behind the buffer booms and under the middle of the frame, which should make them significantly heavier than 2,2to.

As a result of an excursion to Italy, two new, unexpcted "Montanias" joined the collection: MD no. 5579 (1934) and RL1N no. 1369 (1955), both types which were not represented previously. The locomotives are in a very good, authentic condition and complete despite a shutdown time for decades open air under holey covers. They will be preserved only externally with OWATROL oil after the sheets are buckled and the dismantled parts of the RL1N are re-assembled. The motors turn and show no damage. Notably attractive is the fact that the RL1N has the same red color - used for O&K construction machines - like the MD2 in the collection. The locomotives originate from an abandoned brick yard out of the Udine area and have survived at a tractor collector.

The LD2 no. 6331 gets back piece by piece its missing cover panels. These previously were lasered according to the historical model from 3mm steel plates and now have to be adapted to the existing frame parts in the manner of a car taylor. This is not quite easy, because they were bent very much in the previous life of the locomotive and can not be completely buckled despite using strong tools. A new construction of these parts was out of the question because of the efforts to preserve as much original substance as possible. But a tailor-made suit fits good to everyone, also to a locomotive.

February 2016

A railway friend from Leipzig, who owns the LD2 no. 6641 in standard gauge version, thankfully has offered the complete starting valve as a model for the replica. This made it possible to build the interior parts. Previously, the valve had to be completely disassembled. All parts are in amazing good condition. Especially the flange with the two-row rectangular thread is a challenge for the mechanic.

January 2016

After having demonstrated its work capability "naked" in October last year, now LD2 no. 6331 must get their housing back. All sheets were either not available or so deformed that they could not be restored. So they have to be completely replaced, which means a lot of effort.
At the same time the reconstruction of compressed air starting device is carried out. Their most important part - the valve body in the cylinder head - fortunately is still remaining. But all other components incl. the air cylinder must be remade. By the way the "crooked" hole in the front panel is original and enabled the view on the pressure manometer.
